I am...

I am a mom, an aspiring(wannabe) writer, a dance student, a software engineer, interested in everything organic and green and trying to balance all of this with an Arangetram that is coming up in August 2011!

The Varnam saga and the costume confusion.

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote here. The dances are slowly falling into place. This is what I have so far:

1. Pushpanjali -- not yet decided.
2. Ananda Narthana Ganapathy -- 80% done
3. Muralidhara kavuthuvam -- choreo done. I need to practise.

4. Varnam -- Yet to start new choreo
5. Padam?
6. Keerthanam?
7. Kadanakudukalam Thillana -- Choreo almost done
8. Mangalam

4. Varnam -- My teacher decided to reuse 2 jathis from the previous varnam I learnt, yay! And then, the whole drama started.

She started teaching me the Trikala jathi for the varnam and she thought I'd be able to pull of a complicated Bo-Shambo routine that Priyadarshini Govind had choreographed. And I, with my limited direction sense and limited memory for dance sequences, struggled and struggled and struggled to master even a few seconds of it. I told her I couldn't do it and she said she had confidence I could. After 3 classes of being stuck on the same routine, I told her, "Yes, I would like to learn and do this sequence some time in the future when I have infinite time, just not for my arangetram. It is killing my confidence" and she said OK! Whew!

Regarding the costume, she had asked me to stitch the costumes at K.R.Dressers and when I was in India for a month, I called him. He said he would give the dresses back in 3 months time! I requested him if he could do it earlier and he sort of blew me off. My dad said he did not understand why I had stick to K.R.Dressers. Were there not other good tailors in Chennai? And so, I got my dresses stitched at Shanthi. When I came back here, my teacher was seriously disappointed that I hadn't called her about the whole deal. She pointed out several problems with the costumes and finally, we decided to get a new costume done and somehow manage with the other 2. She said she would make some minor alterations to the other 2 costumes and I can manage with them. So, that was that.

The hall is still not decided. I'll know Feb end if I get the hall I want. Wish me luck -- the fun has just begun!

Affirmation -- I am well-oriented and know my directions!
